ONE-THIRD OF THE WORLD’S POPULATION ARE ONLINE

According to the organization of International Telecommunications Union (ITU), to the end of this year, Internet users will be the third of the world’s population – 2 billion people. In this case, five years ago, the number of Internet users was twice smaller: about one billion people. ITU report shows the gap in Internet penetration in more developed countries and regions of the Third World are very noticeable. If the first in the worldwide network out to 71% of the population, then the second group – no more than 21%. Specifically, it projected at the end of this year.

Of the two billion that are expected to be achieved by the end of the year, only 1.2 million users will be living in developing countries. With respect, mobile Internet access by the end of 2010 the number of users of such services will reach 5.3 billion. And only 3.8 million of them will be in developing countries. But in developed countries the penetration of mobile Internet can even exceed 100%: 116 service users per 100 people.
